SpecialtiesGeneral costume design, hand painted costumes, Headpieces, Hand-sewn embellishments, Second-line parasols
I am a reformed academic who earned a Ph.D. in history only to realize that my passion for making costumes far outweighed my desire to be a professor. While in graduate school I was one of the founders of the Camel Toe Lady Steppers, a New Orleans-based all female performance group, and I served as the costume designer for the Camel Toes for ten years. During this time I acquired valuable experience as a designer and began taking on side projects for friends who wanted custom costumes or special accessories like second line parasols and party fascinators and headpieces.
For the past three years I have been collecting costumes, gaining new skills and clients, and developing a new business venture—The New Orleans Costume Center. As the owner/operator of The New Orleans Costume Center I am proud to have created this marketplace and to be a member of the Guild. I am responsible for the upcycling of most of the costumes on the website and love to take items that are old and make them into new and fabulous pieces of wearable art. The costumes I make usually involve lots of feathers and sparkle, are meticulously detailed, and crafted with care. I love make costumes that are beautiful, that make you feel like a star, and that are functional—because you need to be comfortable to have a good time and to give a great performance.
